Are ghettos in the US really that bad?

Yeah they're bad, pretty damn dangerous. If you're not a local you can't even walk through the hood without getting jumped, or mugged. Drugs everywhere, prostitutes, shots fired at night. But they're not anywhere close to as bad as I imagine third world countries are.
