Debt problems and the world?

I'm more then a bit confused on this matter. From what I can tell everything that governments are doing to "fix" this problem is patch up the leaks as they come up. Will this actually hold it forever? Fundamentally the system seems to be made to break and fall apart. Not now, maybe not in 50 years, but eventually everything will come crashing down. What are your viewpoints on how this is all gonna work out?
