Why is my cars oil leaking? How much to fix?

Just went to a shop to get my oil changed today. They said that the oil was leaking out of my rear seals and from the plug on the oil pan. They refused to change my oil b/c of this. Why would my car be leaking oil and how much would it cost to fix?
